How to show up when it matters most.

January 28, 2017

Following on from my previous blog, I thought I would take this opportunity to explain a bit more about the power of Google Local Search, how it can really help your business and little bit more about me to explain how much more I can offer to you than just being a "photographer".

There are approximately 14,000 professional photography businesses in the UK, there are currently 445 Google Trusted Photographers in the UK available for hire, me being one of them. I also have over 20 years experience in managing businesses on the high street.

Business and Photography are my passion and everything related to both from creating Websites, Facebook pages, social media accounts etc etc you get the gist, so enough about me for the time being as I want you to focus on you and your how to increase the online visibility of your business and it would be great to connect with me on Linkedin if you want to know more about me.

Google are continually developing Google Maps and Local search to make sure that the customer's search for local products and services is now really simple and small businesses and high street retailers have as much chance as being found as chains and out of town businesses providing that their Google My Business page is set up correctly and optimised to make sure it really reflects the customer the business should be attracting and shows up when it matters most.

Near me searches have more than doubled in the last year and then enable your potential customers to see inside your business with a virtual tour.

Google say it reflects the fact that people are now seeing through the hype and realising that picking up your goods from your nearest high street store could be faster and easier and more convenient.

The challenge for small businesses is to embrace the change that has happened and to build an online presence that is clever enough to pick up local customers. As well as having an optimised Google My Business page, setting up an optimised Facebook Page with a Facebook Shop to promote the goods or services you are selling on an optimised Facebook page that reflects what the business has to offer also enhances a local presence.

Some questions for you to think about.

Does the name of your business mean more to you than it does to a customer?

How did you decide what the name of your business would be?

Does it include the name of the core part of what your business is about?

I am not suggesting that you change the name of your business but just stop and think for a minute about how including the service/product in the name of your business on Social Media and Google might help not only your business to get found but also to help your customer easily identify what you do.

If you already have a Google My Business page take a look at the insights side. Is your business getting found enough on search or are you relying on the customer finding you direct through social media or advertisements.

Businesses with recent quality photographs on your Google My Business page typically receive more clicks to their website.

What do your photographs say about you and your business?

Is your business faceless ? Photographs of you and your team are important to present a more personal side of your business.

Show something a little less formal to humanise your business. That old saying of people buy from people is still true today. Show yourself and any members of your team to highlight your personalities and give potential clients a feel for what your business is like.

Is your business a bit quirky or unique? Make sure that these compelling features are captured of our business to make it really stand out.

Having great product photographs of popular products or services give customers a better understanding of what your business offers.

I offer a free 1 hour consultation on site where I will find out more about you and your business and do some analysis of your current online presence and how I could enhance that to get you noticed. I will of course do some research on your online presence prior to my visit.

As a Google trusted photographer I can quickly get your business on the map and visible to more customers by creating or optimising an existing page and also capturing great photographs and virtual tours that will help drive traffic to your website or Facebook page ( That's right you don't have to have a website to benefit from Google My Business local searches).

I hope that you have found my latest blog to be informative and useful.

If you have any questions or wish to book in a free on site 1 hour consultation please do not hesitate to contact me here or get in touch via my Facebook page. If your business is further afield still get in touch and I will see what I can do to help ( I find coffee and cake usually works well).
